Some statements are factually wrong, like "The Moon is made of wood," or "There is no such thing as a telephone." These are easy to prove, and are accepted by most people. I'd say they're accepted by everybody, but there's always the issue of insane or deranged people, who might willingly believe that the Moon was made of wood. I'd be interested to hear their reasoning, but no matter how logical their argument, no matter how passionately they state their case, it can't change the facts.
The problem comes when liberal doctrines are introduced. It's all very well giving people the right to an opinion, but what many people don't seem to realise is that this also, inevitably, gives people the right to be wrong. I have yet to hear a logical explanation of how two opposing opinions can be equally 'valid', in that it's perfectly okay for anyone to take up either opinion, and that it's wrong to try to talk them out of that opinion.
"My opinion is just as good as anyone else's," is one of the most corrupting ideas in today's society.
So I'm certain that some people will disagree with my next few paragraphs, calling me intolerant or something along those lines. It is my opinion that anyone who disagrees with me is wrong. I'd be interested to hear their reasoning, but no matter how logical their argument, no matter how passionately they state their case, it can't change the facts. That's not arrogance, by the way; that's believing in what I believe in. I wouldn't believe in something that I thought wasn't true. Furthermore, I've thought about what I believe in, and have logical or at least rational arguments for almost all of it.
Some statements are morally wrong, like "There's nothing wrong with being gay," "The supreme being of this universe is female," "Your genes/upbringing determine what life you will lead, and there's nothing that can be done about it," or "It's okay to have sex outside of marriage."
Heh. Now I've got your attention.
Unfortunately, I'm not going to explain why I believe any of those statements now. This rant is mainly a warm-up, both for me and for anyone who reads this. For me because I've never tried anything like this before, and for you because I'm going to say some stuff you might not like, so you'd better be ready for it.
If you want to send me your opinions on this or any of my future rants, please direct it to rants@theslicery.com, not baconslicer@theslicery.com. This is only as a sorting mechanism for my mailbox, since mail sent to anybody@theslicery.com automatically comes to me anyway. I will read everything, and I promise to try to get a response to everybody.
